Metalsmithing/Jewelry

Demonstration Workshop

Constructing Hollow Forms

with Chapin Dimond

Using hollow form construction allows you to create larger styles and designs without being overly heavy. It helps reduce the amount of metal required, which can bring down the cost of your piece.

In this fast paced, one day demonstration workshop, participants will observe the step-by-step fabrication of a hollow formed ring out of sterling silver. These techniques can be utilized in your work to make a pendant, earrings or design on a larger scale without using a lot of metal.

Processes Chapin will demonstrate: Soldering, hand fabricating, adding texture to create dimension, shaping and forming, how to tube set a stone, and other embellishments to add detail to your design.

Come ready to ask questions! Chapin will answer your process questions as he creates the ring and will be available to answer other burning questions that you may have at the end of the demonstration. Beginner to experienced artists are invited to attend!

Chapin is a jeweler/metalsmith/designer who works full time in his studio in Louisville, Colorado. He is currently an instructor at the Boulder Metalsmithing Association and teaches workshops around the Denver Metro Area. He also participates in numerous shows and festivals in Colorado.

After this demo, if you have a desire to create your own piece, please feel free to ask the hosts at Continuum Art Studios about membership in the jewelry making space.
